Newborns (0-3 months)

Newborns will typically need 10-12 diapers per day during their first few months. This number will start to decline as they begin to sleep through the night and have fewer bowel movements.

8-10 diapers per day

For the first few weeks, you can expect your baby to urinate approximately 20 times per day. This decreases to about 10 times per day by the time your baby is one month old. You may notice that your baby has fewer wet diapers than this, which is normal, but she should have at least six wet diapers every 24 hours.

Diaper sizes vary considerably among brands. The table below shows the average number of diapers each size can be expected to hold. These are only estimates; you may find that your baby does better with more or fewer diapers of a particular size.

Size                              Newborn                       Small                      Medium                    Large
Number of Diapers Per Day         8-10                            6-9                        4-7                       3-6

Infants (4-11 months)

If you have a baby who’s 4-11 months old, you can expect them to need anywhere from 6-10 diapers per day. This number will obviously change as your baby grows, so it’s important to keep an eye on how many diapers they’re using each day and adjust as necessary.

6-8 diapers per day

On average, a newborn uses about 2.5 to 3.5 diaper changes per day. This means you can expect to use between 6 and 8 diapers per day during the first few months. Once your baby starts sleeping through the night (typically around 3 months), you will probably see a decrease in daytime diaper changes.

Toddlers (12-23 months)

On average, a toddler will use about five to six diapers per day.

4-6 diapers per day

At this age, you can expect your toddler to use anywhere from 4-6 diapers per day. They may also start to show an interest in the potty, but aren’t quite ready to start toilet training yet.

Preschoolers (2-4 years)

On average, your toddler will use about 5 diapers per day. That’s about 35 diapers per week. You can expect your child to use about 2,500 diapers by the time potty training is complete.

3-4 diapers per day

Preschoolers usually need 3-4 diapers per day.
