Newborn diapers are the smallest size diapers and are made to fit babies weighing between six and ten pounds. They have a narrower waist and shorter rise than size one diapers, and they also have adjustable tabs so you can get a snug, comfortable fit. Newborn diapers also have a cut-out for the umbilical cord, which helps to protect your baby’s belly button as it heals.

Preemie Diapers

Preemie diapers are for infants who weigh between 2 and 5 pounds andPremature babies may need to wear preemie diapers for several weeks — or even months — after they’re born. Some manufacturers offer size-specific preemie diapers, while others produce a single “preemie” size that fits infants from 2 to 5 pounds.

If you’re not sure which size diaper to buy, ask your baby’s healthcare provider for guidance. In general, it’s a good idea to have several dozen preemie diapers on hand before you bring your baby home from the hospital.

Size 1 Diapers

Size 1 diapers are the smallest size diapers and are for babies who weigh 8-14 pounds. If you are unsure about what size diaper to get, you can always ask your baby’s pediatrician.

Size 2 Diapers

The second size of diapers, Size 2, fits babies weighing between 12 and 18 pounds (5.4 and 8.2 kg). If your baby is in the 50th percentile for weight, she’ll probably wear Size 2 diapers from about four to seven months old. When she’s closer to the high end of the weight range (90th percentile), you may want to switch her up to Size 3s as early as five months old.

Size 3 Diapers

Size 3 diapers are for babies weighing 16-28 pounds. Huggies® Little Snugglers Diapers fit babies from 12-18 pounds, and our Little Movers Diapers fit babies from 18-28 pounds.

Size 5 Diapers

The next size up from Size 4 diapers are Size 5 diapers. These diapers are meant for toddlers who weigh between 27 and 35 pounds. If your toddler is in the 50th percentile for weight, this is probably the size diaper you will need. Size 5 diapers are also sometimes called “toddler diapers.”
